Dong Thap Province is located to the north of the Mekong Delta, in southern Vietnam. The province shares border with Cambodia to the north, with Long An to the east, with Tien Giang and Vinh Long to the south-east, with Can Tho to the south-west, and with An Giang to the west. It may be possible that Dong Thap is out of the way, so most travellers don't make trips through the province. Dong Thap is visited by few adventure travellers who love straying from the well beaten path in Vietnam.

Best time to visit

Talking about the weather of Dong Thap, which is a region located in the thermo-climate zone, there is still a division of dry season and rainy season but not too clear. Sometimes it is still sunny in the rain and the sudden sunny season still has showers “annoying” but not too obnoxious, the weather and temperature in Dong Thap is still wonderful in any season.

There are 3 times when people can travel to Dong Thap, which is from August to November of lunar calendar and near the Lunar New Year. Simply because from the beginning of August, Dong Thap is in the flooding season, freely enjoying the specialties of the countryside. Also do not forget that, everyone will have the opportunity to see the herds of storks dragging each other to nest by the woods at sunset. And also very special, the season of floating water here is also the season where the lotus begins to bloom.

Or go to Dong Thap to travel around July-July, right? An entire orchard of fruits with all kinds of mango, grapefruit, tangerine and tangerine tastes really different from other places. Perhaps, Lai Vung has made a mark in time because of its own inherent sweet and succulent flavor, a specialty that must be enjoyed.

And do not forget that, every December is the season with spring flowers in Sa Dec flower village. This will be the time when flowers in Dong Thap are the most beautiful and the most exciting. Because this is also the time to harvest flowers for the Tet holiday.

Kien An Cung Pagoda

The temple is situated in the heart of Sa Dec City, built by a group of Chinese people from Fujian in 1924. Annually, the temple takes place two critical events in 22th of the 2nd and 9th months in the lunar calendar. Every three years, there is a ceremony for a requiem mass and praying for the peaceful nation and citizens.

Mausoleum of Nguyen Sinh Sac

Being a part of Cao Lanh city, the mausoleum is divided into two main sections. The first one consists of the tomb and the memorial house, while the second part includes Uncle Ho’s stilt house and fish pond. The building is to memorialize President Ho’s father. Annually, on the 27th of the 10th lunar month, domestic and international tourists pour into the mausoleum to organize a celebration to commemorate Nguyen Sinh Sac. It is considered a significant festival for local people.

Tram Chim National Park

The national park is a highlighted ecotourist area of Dong Thap Province. Belonging to seven communes of Tam Dong District, with the total area of more than 7.000 hectares and spectacular natural landscapes, Tram Chim National Park is recognized as the 4th Ramsar site of Vietnam and the 2000th of the world. Vietnam would scrap the Covid-19 testing requirement for all arrivals starting Sunday, May 15th 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed.

In a document issued Friday, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Health to closely follow the coronavirus situation and provide proper guidance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should direct Vietnamese authorities outside the country to inform people who wish to enter Vietnam to follow appropriate disease prevention measures, he said.

The latest decision has been made as the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths drops both in Vietnam and around the world. Several countries have been taking steps to relax coronavirus restrictions, including scrapping testing before entry.

Current policies issued by the health ministry require entrants to have negative results from PCR tests done within the previous 72 hours, or a negative result from a rapid test done within the last 24 hours.

Those who don’t have a negative test result must refrain from making contact with others during the first 24 hours after entry. They will be able to move freely once they test negative after arrival.

Children under two don’t need to be tested.

Vietnam stopped requiring medical declarations from those arriving from abroad starting April 27, and for domestic travel starting April 30.
