PU LUONG WEATHER

Here are top things to do in Pu Luong:

Conquer Pu Luong Mount Peak

If you love adventurous experiences, it would be great for you to try Pu Luong Trekking to the top with the height over 1,700 meters. From the top of Pu Luong, you can take an entire glimpse toward the poetic sceneries of mountains, forests, fields and valleys in the mountain foot. Above all, the best reward is the feeling of conquest and being the winner.

The climbing journey to Son – Ba – Muoi

Climbing up to Son – Ba – Muoi, the remote area that not many people know, you have to pass Nua, Trinh, Hin, Bo villages and soaring mountain paths. However, when reaching the destination, it all becomes worthy because the sceneries here is really peaceful and picturesque.

Kho Muong Village

With many foreign tourists, Kho Muong is the ideal parting point for trekking journeys through Pu Luong. Coming to Kho Muong village, apart from beautiful sights and majestic nature, tourists will also have chances to explore the mysterious cave system in a Vietnam adventure tour. From Kho Muong village, tourists can go to other related villages to learn more about the daily life, and custom of the local inhabitants as well as the cultural habit in the place.

Waterfall in Hieu village

When coming to Pu Luong, you should not miss a place named Hieu waterfall village. On the way from Pho Doan town to the village, tourists can catch the familiar sight of water wheels, which is featured by Thai characteristics. Passing a bridge and a small hill, you will be surprised to get to the waterfall of Hieu village as the next great stopping point for your trekking in Pu Luong.

Pho Don Fair Market

Starting your journey on Thursday or Sunday, Pho Don Fair Market is a good choice. This is the place to exchange interesting stuff which can only be sold in mountainous fairs. You can easily purchase special products of the people here like brocade cloth, wine, forest vegetable, insect or fresh fruits.

Experience the high land life

Tourists will experience the life of Thai and Muong ethnic groups while blending in the daily life of the mountainous people. Besides, there are many interesting outdoor Vietnam adventure activities here for you to join in such as bamboo dancing, singing and trying a special dance of the Thai people.

Stay overnight in Pu Luong Retreat

Pu Luong retreat is an ideal place to relax and calm you down. This is where you can stay away from the hustle and bustle of the normal life. Therefore, in Pu Luong retreat, they do not install modern electronic facilities such as televisions, fridges, air conditioners… to help tourists enjoy totally the natural life with forest space. That is a great and strange experience for a Vietnam adventure travel. However, there is equipped with free and stable wifi all over the retreat.

Because Pu Luong is a natural reserve for an important tropical forest of Vietnam, tourism activities are often spontaneous. Therefore, there is no hotel in this place, as of that, you can choose to homestay or spend the nights in some popular guesthouses.

When trekking in Pu Luong, you can also overstay in large and airy tilt houses of the Thai or Muong in Lac, Com Poong, Hoa Binh and some other villages in the core area of Pu Luong. The average cost for a night is about 40,000 to 50,000 Vietnamese Dongs for one person.

Pu Luong retreat is a separate resort, which works like a hotel. With small space including only two tilt houses and five bungalows over an acreage of roughly 3,000 square meters, this retreat cannot have enough space for independent tourists or those who do not book the service beforehand.

Savor Pu Luong specialties

Eating service for a trekking in Pu Luong is often booked in tilt houses where are opened for tours. The host will make special dishes which can only be found in mountainous areas such as hill chicken, sour bamboo shoots, bitter bamboo shoots, bamboo sticky rice, grilled spring duck or boar.

If you want an adventure experience in Vietnam, trekking in Pu Luong is a great suggestion. We hope that this travel guide would help you a lot in planning a trekking trip in Pu Luong.

There are no hotels in Pu Luong Thanh Hoa. Vice verse, homestay is more popular in the area, located mostly in Co Lung, Thanh Lam, Thanh Son, Lung Cao Commune in Ba Thuoc District. Most of the homestays have the collective rooms at the price of 100,000 to 150,000 VND per person each night. You will have a chance to experience daily life and try some special foods prepared by the house owners.

Recently, some resorts have been built up to meet the rising demands of high-qualified resort services. However, the price is quite high, about one to three millions each night up to the grade you choose.

Kit Village

Contact: Mr. Thao  (0372.494.42).

There are not too many homestays in the area. Therefore, you should book reservations in advance, especially at peak seasons.

Moreover, you can search for other homestays in surrounding areas like Mai Chau, from which you can easily access Pu Luong by motorbike or car.

Because Pu Luong has developed tourism recently, restaurant services have not meet current demands. Instead, you will have meals at your homestay prepared by the owners. The menu will be up to your choice. However, generally, there are local rice or sticky rice presented with some other specialties on a big leaf tray. The meal is typical for Thai minority's food.

Co Lung duck

Co Lung duck is a main ingredient for many delicious dishes in Pu Luong Thanh Hoa. It is known for small bones and attractive layers of meat. The locals let them freely find their food alongside the stream instead of feeding them every day, so the flavor is very special.

The most popular dish is roasted duck with a good smelling and greasy taste that tourists will find it hard to forget after once trying.

Roasted stream fish

The fish is cleaned and marinated immediately after caught. Special seasons taken from the forests are included to create a special flavor that is hard to imagine. It will be roasted on red ember and you can enjoy it in some minutes together with five-colored sticky rice and local corn wine.

Bamboo-tube rice

Bamboo-tube rice is a popular food in the daily meals of the locals. What makes it so unique maybe the local flavoring big-grain rice combined with the bamboo-tube.

Hill chicken

The chickens are raised naturally on the hill, so the meat is flavoring and gentle. They are usually boiled and enjoyed immediately with local spices. Only local cooks know how to marinate the chicken in the right way to bring about such a unique flavor.

Bitter bamboo shoots

In spring, local residents will go to forests to get bitter bamboo shoots which is naturally bitter but surprisingly turns sweets after that. However, the food only becomes perfect when it is combined with a special season in the area.

Roasted piglet

It is a local farm animal of Muong ethnic minority. It is hard to keep the originally gentle flavor of the meat in a complex recipe, which also makes the food loved by tourists from all over the world.

Can Wine (Tube wine)

Tube wine is a special fermented rice wine of Pu Luong Thanh Hoa. This special spicy and sweet combination between cassava yeast and local stream water will certainly bear in tourists' mind when someone mentions Vietnam.

Public transportation

There is no direct routes to the destination if you choose to transfer on public vehicles. Therefore, if you are not familiar with local transportation, it is not highly recommended because you have to make some transits on the journey.
From Hanoi Capital City, tourists can take a car to the center of Bac Thuoc (Cang Nang town). Then, take a taxi to finish the 20-kilometer journey left. From Giap Bat Station or My Dinh Station in Hanoi, contact the driver Hoang Phuong at the number 0973737778.

Private vehicle

The most popular way to visit Pu Luong Thanh Hoa is by private vehicle (motorbike, car) that you can hire in Hanoi or have a tourism agency arrange.

From your post to the destination, you should follow a closed road not to repeat the journey you have made. From Hanoi, follow the National Highway No.6 toward Hoa Binh Province, then you can have a choice of going or through Lung Van cloud valley or Ban Lac Village Mai Chau to reach Pu Luong.

The road through Lung Van valley is quite narrow with crooked passes and slopes, but the landscape surrounding will certainly catch your eyes for the first time seeing. You will have chance to admire a number of cloud blocks covered the mountain bodies and an early dew layer floating in the valleys. It takes about four to five hours to finish the road.

After finishing Pu Luong itinerary, you should go along the National Highway No.15C and 217 to visit Cam Luong Anglelfish Stream, from which you continue to Xuan Mai intersection (National Highway No.6) and go back to Hanoi. It is a little farther but safer and you can take the chance to admire more interesting sceneries. If time allows, visit Cuc Phuong National Park with a diverse system of flora and fauna.

For the nice landscape on the roadway, tourists have a tendency to go on a motorbike to enjoy every moment during the itinerary.

Vietnam would scrap the Covid-19 testing requirement for all arrivals starting Sunday, May 15th 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed.

In a document issued Friday, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Health to closely follow the coronavirus situation and provide proper guidance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should direct Vietnamese authorities outside the country to inform people who wish to enter Vietnam to follow appropriate disease prevention measures, he said.

The latest decision has been made as the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths drops both in Vietnam and around the world. Several countries have been taking steps to relax coronavirus restrictions, including scrapping testing before entry.

Current policies issued by the health ministry require entrants to have negative results from PCR tests done within the previous 72 hours, or a negative result from a rapid test done within the last 24 hours.

Those who don’t have a negative test result must refrain from making contact with others during the first 24 hours after entry. They will be able to move freely once they test negative after arrival.

Children under two don’t need to be tested.

Vietnam stopped requiring medical declarations from those arriving from abroad starting April 27, and for domestic travel starting April 30.
