Cambodia has abolished the need for a PCR negative test obtained 72 hours before arrival and rapid test upon arrival in Cambodia. They also enable to visa-on arrival system on the strike to facilitate the reopening process of the tourism sector as reported on March 17th, 2022.

No more covid tests for Cambodia

The Ministry of Health, acting on the instruction of the Prime Minister released a statement last night highlighting the abolishment of these two requirements.

In addition, the Ministry also announced that Visa on Arrival for all travellers to Cambodia is also being reinstated and this is applicable for all travellers, by air, land and sea.

Travellers who are not fully vaccinated or not vaccinated at all, are still required to under go mandatory 14 days quarantine at a location to be designated by the Ministry.

Despite the abolishment of the requirements, the Ministry of Health continued to encourage travellers and others to carry out self tests to ensure they are free of COVID-19.

Thailand too has stated yesterday that it too is planning to waive similar requirements.

However, the challenge is for Cambodia to disseminate these new developments worldwide to ensure passengers are not put through unnecessary hassle.

A case in point is the requirement for a $50,000 insurance policy for arriving passengers which had been waived in November last year.

However, travellers who approach a Cambodian embassy abroad to get a visa are required to producer the insurance policy and the policy is also a mandatory requirement at check in counters.

The policy and the dissemination must be coherently and cohesively carried out to enable Cambodia to get maximum benefits in terms of travel in general and tourism in particular.

Re-enable on-arrival visa system

In addition to abolishing the need for a negative PCR negative test obtained 72 hours before arrival in Cambodia, The Kingdom has also announced the Visa on Arrival (VOA) scheme has been reinstated.

The announcement was made late last night in a statement issued by The Ministry of Health, acting on the instruction of the Prime Minister.

The statement says that Cambodia ‘Permit the re-issuance of Visa on Arrival for all international travelers, including air, land and sea travelers.’

The move is expected to provide a much needed boost for Cambodia’s beleaguered tourism industry, which has suffered greatly during the 2 years of the pandemic.

International travelers to Thailand will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination or ATK test results from October 1st, 2022 onward.

In a new move to attract travelers during peak season, Thailand is doing away with the requirement of needing vaccination certificates or Covid-19 negative results in the case of unvaccinated passengers. Additionally, those infected with Covid-19, but have mild symptoms don’t need to isolate from next month. The same applies to those who test positive but display no symptoms.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced these changes on Thursday after the National Communicable Diseases Committee (NCDC) had a meeting on Wednesday.

Instead of isolating those who have contracted the disease would be required to wear a mask, socially distance themselves from others and wash their hands frequently for the first five days. They also need to stay away from those who are immunocompromised and vulnerable.

Dr. Sophon Iamsirithaworn, deputy director-general of the Department of Disease Control, informed that since the present Covid-19 mutation doesn’t cause serious symptoms in most people, disease control measures can be relaxed.

National Security Council secretary-general Supoj Malaniyom added that the new measures are being put in place to help improve the economic conditions of the country.

“The primary aim will be to ensure the economy is back on track so people could earn their livelihoods once more,” he said.

Vietnam would scrap the Covid-19 testing requirement for all arrivals starting Sunday, May 15th 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed.

In a document issued Friday, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Health to closely follow the coronavirus situation and provide proper guidance. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should direct Vietnamese authorities outside the country to inform people who wish to enter Vietnam to follow appropriate disease prevention measures, he said.

The latest decision has been made as the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths drops both in Vietnam and around the world. Several countries have been taking steps to relax coronavirus restrictions, including scrapping testing before entry.

Current policies issued by the health ministry require entrants to have negative results from PCR tests done within the previous 72 hours, or a negative result from a rapid test done within the last 24 hours.

Those who don’t have a negative test result must refrain from making contact with others during the first 24 hours after entry. They will be able to move freely once they test negative after arrival.

Children under two don’t need to be tested.

Vietnam stopped requiring medical declarations from those arriving from abroad starting April 27, and for domestic travel starting April 30.
